Der Verband bezweckt, als Berufsverband und Gewerkschaft die beruflichen, wirtschaftlichen, kulturpolitischen, sozialen und künstlerischen Interessen seiner Mitglieder auf schweizerischer und internationaler Ebene zu wahren und zu fördern. Der Verband ist gesamtschweizerisch und in Liechtenstein tätig und vertritt alle Sprachregionen. Er ist parteipolitisch und konfessionell neutral und unabhängig.
